It is clear from scripture that one of the ways we can disciple our children is to teach them to be good listeners. God wants His children to learn to listen to Him and His Word, pay attention to authority to gain wisdom, and be attentive to the needs of others.
Each month at Growing Kids for the Kingdom, we are highlighting a family that teaches their children ways to share God’s love with others by serving together as a family. I hope this will be both inspiring and encouraging; providing ideas of how we can be intentional to serve with our children and raise the next generation to be intentional about sharing the love of Jesus!
While praying about which character trait to focus on for my monthly devotional, the word “secure” kept coming to my mind. This is not a traditional character trait that we tend to focus on as parents, and I tried to brush it away, but I felt God continuing to press it into my heart.
As I continued to pray and seek God on the matter, I felt that He wanted us as parents to focus on security, because it is one of the most important attributes our children need to thrive in this life.
This devotional is meant to be read with your children and is best for ages 4-10. The purpose is to help your kids understand why we can be secure in God’s love for us. My prayer is that as we teach our children the truths about God’s love, the Holy Spirit will work in their hearts to give them a solid security in their relationship with God.

Good character is not something that just sprouts out of our lovely children on its own, although that would be really nice if it did! On the contrary it must be modeled, taught, reinforced, and encouraged.
When I started teaching in children’s ministry, I became very convicted about “doing” God’s Word if I was going to teach it.
Being a mom is not easy. I never knew the depth of my sin, my pride, my lack of patience, and my need for control until I became a mom. I have never been so humbled and so in need of God’s help until I became a mom.
