I have found myself wondering lately why so many teens fall away from God by the time they leave home. Of course, this is not an easy answer, and it’s clearly multifactorial, but I believe it is an important question for us to ask ourselves as Christian parents. The verse that came to mind as I was contemplating this question was James 1:27, specifically where God says through James that we are to keep ourselves from being polluted by the world.

We know that our enemy, Satan, uses many different avenues to speak lies to our children, and one of the ways he deceives our kids into unbiblical beliefs and temptations is through books.  Books can be a powerful influence on those who read them, especially children.  Children are not yet grounded in their convictions, so books can more easily shape their attitudes, moral convictions, and perceptions of the world.  As Warrior Mamas, we must be vigilant against the enemy’s attempts to use harmful books to lie to our children.

In our “Warrior Mamas” series we are taking a deep dive into secular books and media and how the enemy can use them to speak lies and bring temptation to our kids and teens. Today, we are going to look at secular music. If you are like most parents, you probably grew up listening to secular music without thinking anything of it. In fact, even in Christian culture today, most kids and teens freely listen to a variety of secular music, and because it’s so accepted by our children’s peers, it is easy to overlook any negative effects it may be having on our children.
