Bennett Family Highlight: From a Christian Parenting Coach

Tell me about you and your family.

I’m Alicia, wife to my best friend for the last 20 years and mom to four adventurous,
energetic boys (ages 16 down to 7) who keep me on my toes—and my knees in prayer!
We live in beautiful Colorado, where we love hiking, watching sunsets, and cheering on
our kids in all their sports and school activities. Our home is far from perfect, but it’s
filled with love, laughter, and lots of learning moments where we get to point each other
back to Jesus.

How do you encourage your kids to know and love the Lord?

We prioritize it and talk about it often throughout the day. Our anchor is an almost-daily
family devotion time right after dinner. That intentional time in the Word plants the seed
so we can naturally weave Scripture into everyday life—around the table at mealtimes,
in the car on the way to school, during bedtime prayers, and in whatever else comes our
way. I’m a big believer that discipleship isn’t a separate “program” but a way of living.
We also model a genuine relationship with Jesus through our own daily quiet times,
showing our kids it’s not just something we “do” on Sundays, but the foundation of our
lives.

This is the heart behind my ministry—coaching Christian moms to find their identity in
Christ so they can walk in confidence as they disciple their children. If you’re looking for
a simple way to start, I’d love to gift you my free ROOTED: 5-Day Devotional for Moms,
designed to help you plant your own roots deep in God’s truth so you can disciple from
the overflow. Grab your free copy here.

What resources have you found helpful in this area?

Over the years, we’ve tried many resources! But I always tell moms—it’s more about the
habit you’re building than the exact tool you use. Some of my favorites are age-
appropriate devotionals, Seeds Family Worship songs for car sing-alongs, Christian
Heroes Then and Now by YWAM for read-alouds, and BibleStudyGuide.com
worksheets for summer Bible study with my boys. You can find a full list of our family’s
favorite discipleship resources on my website here for age-specific things we’ve used.

How do you train your kids in godly character?

We talk often about how God cares more about who we are becoming than just what we
are doing (heart over hands). When a conflict or bad attitude pops up (and it does!), I
pause to help them identify what they’re feeling and believing underneath the
surface—and why. We affirm that feelings are valid, but sinful responses aren’t God’s
way. Then we ask, “What does God say about this challenge?” We role-play, practice
apologizing, “rewind and try again” when needed, and celebrate every moment they
choose what’s right, even when it’s hard. And we pray together over areas we want to
see growth.

What resources have you found helpful in this area?

I’m not a theologian or child development expert—but I love to learn! That willingness to
keep growing has been one of my biggest assets in motherhood. My personal library is
full of books I’ve learned from, many of which I share with moms in my coaching
program
or through workshops. I regularly apologize to my kids when I get it wrong, and
I think that humility has been one of my most powerful tools.

How do you encourage your kids/family to share God’s love with others?

We look for simple, tangible ways to love like Jesus—baking cookies for a neighbor,
inviting friends to church, writing encouraging notes, serving together as a family, or
inviting new friends over for a meal. We remind our boys often that the Great
Commission isn’t just for adults—it’s for them, too. We talk about how kindness, words,
and actions can all point people to Christ.

Any resources you have found helpful in this area?

We follow and pray for several missionaries, talking often about their work. We’ve used
prayer books for different countries or religions (I’m not afraid to teach my kids about
other beliefs!) and every Olympic Games, we learn about what God is doing in the
world. You can find my Summer Olympics Family Devotional here—the Winter version
will be released this January!

Thank you, Alicia, for sharing ways you encourage your family to know, love, and follow the Lord. I love how you see discipleship as not a separate program, but a way of life and that you bring God into everyday moments.
