Teen Devotionals

Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God, Student Edition
By: Henry T. Blackaby and Claude V. King
LifeWay Publications

Best for ages 13-18

Experiencing God is a classic, Christian study that has impacted many believers in their walk with God through the years. I went through this student edition with my youth pastor and a group of students at the end of my senior year in high school, and it really had an impact on me and on my relationship with God. Henry Blackaby explains how to have a personal relationship with God, and he teaches how to follow God’s plan for your life and hear God speak to you in different ways through studying scripture. I would recommend this book as a family study for teens or as a personal study for older teens serious about growing in their relationship with God. There is also a devotional and journal version for adults, but older, mature teens may appreciate it as well.

Seven Steps to Knowing, Doing, and Experiencing the Will of God for Teens
By: Tom Blackaby, Mike Blackaby, Daniel Blackaby
B&H BOOKS

Best for ages 13-18

Henry Blackaby’s brother and two of his grown sons, all of whom are in ministry, wrote this book for teens based on Experiencing God. The book is written very much for the teen crowd, with fun graphics and funny stories imbedded in important truth to draw your teens closer into a personal relationship with God. Some of the topics discussed include God’s pursuit for a relationship with us, ways in which God speaks to us, and how God wants to use our passions for His purposes. There are questions at the end of each chapter for self-reflection or to answer in a group. This book is great for even young teens ready to grow in their relationship with God and could be done with a parent, as a family, or individually.

Jesus Calling: Enjoy Peace in His Presence/strong>
By: Sarah Young
Thomas Nelson Publishing

Best for ages 13-18

This is a great devotional to help you understand how God wants to speak to you and have a personal relationship with you. I have heard of several teens who have grown in their faith through reading this devotional. The “teen edition” has the same content as the regular edition, but with youthful graphics on the pages to make it more fun of this generation. The devotional contains daily readings about what God spoke to the author each day as she spent time with Him. Each message aligns with scripture, and God has used this book in amazing ways to speak to countless readers and grow them closer in a personal relationship with Him.

The Bare Bones Bible® Handbook for Teens: Getting to Know Every Book in the Bible (The Bare Bones Bible® Series)
By: Jim George
Harvest House Publishers

Best for ages 13-18

A college student I know told me about this devotional, which she enjoyed in her teen years. Each chapter goes through a book of the Bible and discusses overall themes, a character profile, and life lessons applicable to teens. Students will come away understanding the Bible better, and how scripture can relate to their personal world. I would imagine this book would make a great family devotional as well!

A Closer Look At The Evidence
By: Richard and Tina Kleiss
Search for Truth Publications

Best for ages 13-18

My sister-in-law told me about this book, as she read it both as a family devotional with her kids and as a Sunday school teacher with her students. Each devotion is packed with evidence for a loving Creator and looks at 26 different areas of science, such as biology, astronomy, archeology, and physics. If your family and/or your teens are interested in learning facts and enjoy science, this would be a great devotional for them to really strengthen their faith.
