Picture books are a great way to engage little ones and grow their faith.
Children are naturally drawn to stories, so what better way to teach them Biblical truths than by sharing them through engaging graphics and intriguing stories that capture their attention, imagination, and their heart.
Here are some fun ones to share.
One way to encourage our children to have a personal relationship with the Lord is to encourage devotional readings coupled with reading their Bibles. Devotionals are impactful because they teach Biblical truths and help children apply God’s Word to their lives through stories, analogies, and discussion questions. Devotionals can also encourage children in their prayer life. There are many different kinds of devotionals we can use to encourage our children in their walk with the Lord, so sometimes it can be difficult to know where to start.
Knowing when and how to choose the perfect Bible for your child can be a bit overwhelming. You may not know what options are out there, or perhaps you have searched the internet and found way too many Bibles to choose from. You may also worry that your child will not be interested in reading the Bible, it may be too difficult for him or her to understand, or the translation may not be exactly accurate. These are all valid concerns, which is why I am sharing some tips to help you choose the right Bible for your child.
“Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart.” Matthew 13:18-19 (NIV) This week we will take a closer look at the meaning of the eaten seed.
3 Ways to Protect Our Children From Evil
“If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.” Matthew 5:29 (ESV)
1. Jesus taught His followers to stay away from evil.
One of the parenting books I have loved and recommend on my website is Raising Grateful Kids in an Entitled World: How One Family Learned That Saying No Can Lead to Life’s Biggest Yes. The book is written by Kristen Welch, blogger at wearethatfamily.com, and I had the privilege to interview her about her thoughts on entitlement and more about her book and ministry.
Kristen, tell us a little about yourself, your family, your blog, and your ministry.
When I was in the first grade, I remember an interesting story that occurred in my class about lunchbox notes. We would bring our lunches to school every day and eat at our desks, while our teacher would eat at her desk. One day, a girl named Emily went up to our teacher with a small folded note and asked if she would read it to her. The teacher looked over the note and began to read it in front of the class. It was a sweet note written by Emily’s mom. Emily beamed while the teacher read her note and proudly sat back down at her desk to finish her lunch.
Now we will discuss a final way to reach our children’s hearts and that is through prayer. In Acts we learn that the early disciples devoted themselves to prayer. (Acts 2:42) We also know that the prayer of a righteous (mom) is powerful and affective, so praying for our children’s hearts is arguably the most important thing we can do.
I love connecting parents with great resources, and recently I had the privilege of getting to know Beth Meverden who has a similar heart for encouraging parents on their journey to raise their kids to know and follow the Lord! You are going to love hearing from her and learning from her wisdom, experiences, and great resources!
